JOB TITLE: PAYROLL & BENEFITS SPECIALIST

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Controller, this position will play a key role in managing and administering employee benefits and processing payroll for multiple companies according to schedule and in the correct amount. Responsibilities include excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines, good verbal and written communication skills, assist with audits and seek specialized assistance as necessary to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the HR Manager with onboarding and offboarding employees
  • Administering benefits to employees
  • Maintaining employee profiles in ADP and Costpoint
  • Reconciling voluntary deductions to insurance invoices
  • Liaison between VRC Metal Systems and its subsidiaries and appropriate outside agencies
  • Process 401(k) contributions
  • Prepare and maintain accurate payroll records and ensure proper filing
  • Strong active listening skills and verbal communication skills
  • Multitasking is essential, must be comfortable meeting tight deadlines
  • Electronically updating financial reports and documents
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws and regulations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SALARY RANGE:

$25-$30/hr

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll processing with the ability to manage or learn to manage U.S. payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Prior use of payroll processing software systems with an ability to adapt to new technologies
  • Experience with ADP or Costpoint (Strongly Preferred)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read documents in English such as policy, procedure, and financial documents
  • Ability to speak effectively in English on the phone and in person
  • Strong proof-reading skills for grammar and punctuation
  • Write routine reports, correspondence, business letters, summaries, and reports in English using prescribed format, and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient use of Accounting/Bookkeeping Software (required)
  • Experience with Costpoint (highly preferred)
  • Proficient in Excel at an advanced level (required)
  • Skilled in electronic communication including email, web searching, and data organization (required)
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail when inputting data in electronic form (required)

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Read and interpret policy and procedure

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
